OK, so just about everyone knows that Alton Brown is a culinary genius. I think we can all agree on that...

So if he tells you to make popcorn in a metal bowl, you listen — which is precisely what he said to do during an episode of Good Eats.

The clip starts out with Brown claiming that a standard, six-quart metal bowl is "the perfect corn popper."

Why? Because, due to the shape of the bowl, the "oil and unpopped kernels pool at the bottom where the heat is the greatest, while popped kernels rise up the side away from the heat" says Brown. This prevents the already popped kernels from burning.

To start, Brown combines oil, popcorn kernels, and salt in a large metal bowl.

Note: Brown actually blitzes his salt in a food processor to make it super fine. This helps it coat the popcorn evenly.

He then covers the bowl with a piece of aluminum foil and pokes a few holes in it with a pair of scissors.

This will help let some of the steam out.

Brown places the bowl directly over a medium flame and uses tongs to shake the bowl around. "Forty-five seconds to a minute will go by and nothing is going to happen," explains Brown, "but it's important that you keep the vessel in motion." Just be careful and make sure you don't burn yourself.

After a few minutes of shaking, the popcorn will be perfected popped without any burnt bits. The bowl will be hot, so just make sure to let it cool down for a few minutes before eating directly out of it. 😋

So there you have it, perfectly popped popcorn without any burnt or unpopped kernels. You can watch exactly how he does it here and try it for yourself.
