And recently, I came across one of those tricks that's so crazy simple that I wondered WHY I never thought of it before. 🤦‍♂️

In a clip from her show Barefoot Contessa, Garten makes guacamole and demonstrates how to quickly and easily smash the avocado without making it textureless.

Garten starts by combining some fairly typical guacamole ingredients in a large bowl: avocado, freshly squeezed lemon juice, hot sauce, chopped garlic, red onions, salt, and pepper.

But then, when it comes time to smash it all together, Garten whips out a chefs knife and slices the avocado directly in the bowl.

"This is the secret to really good guacamole," says Garten.

"I don't purée it. All I do is cut into it just like this so it's really chunky. It mixes the ingredient together and it stays really chunky," explains Garten.

"Just run your knife through the avocados," says Garten. This results in a guacamole that's nice and creamy, yet still has defined chunks of avocado — because nobody wants textureless guacamole, am I right?

And just a general note: You should probably use a bowl you don't mind scratching up a little. The knife may knick and cut the surface slightly, so just be careful. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So there you have it, no need to smash avocado with a potato masher or fork ever again!
